Affiliate marketing represents an online channel where advertisers (or 'merchants') are able to reward website owners (or 'affiliates') for sales or leads generated through that affiliates website.

The merchant increases sales revenue and brand awareness whilst the affiliate is paid a proportion of the resulting lead or sale. Thus, the merchant is able to advertise without risk, and the affiliate benefits from website performance.

The process begins with the affiliate promoting the merchants campaign which can be done using website links (both image and text links) or email marketing. When a customer clicks on the affiliates link, a cookie is placed upon the users computer which allows for any sale or lead to be tracked and recorded. The affiliate who generated the lead is then rewarded with payment of the agreed commission.

Both parties are able to see and assess live statistics regarding the performance of each campaign they are associated with.
